Transformers Official Mobile App Thumb

Last week, we reported that Hasbro is rolling out an all new update to their Official Transformers Mobile App. Even though the update was supposed to be “Worldwide“, fans claimed that some regions might not get the update (some never got the app at all). Hopefully they will, since this is a really nice touch to their existing app and a cool addition to the Transformers Fandom.

Just this morning, the new update came to the South-East Asian region and this newsie decided to dig in. Check out the full review/guide, after the jump.

First things first: The update version numbering on iOS devices seem to be rather confusing as this update is listed as Version 5.2. However, Android devices denote this number as Version 3.0 which makes sense since this is the 3rd major update to the app. The original being Version 1.0 (released for Transformers: Age Of Extinction), second major update being Version 2.0 for Transformers: Generations and this being the 3rd big update.

On the 2nd major update, it was just a re-skinning of the original. This new update however is substantially different.

When you first load the app, it displays a disclaimer stating that this app is now for Transformers: Generations fans  only (indicating Collectors). Therefore indicating that the RID mobile game is now for Kids and Rescue Bots app is now for Pre-Schoolers; Hasbro’s three target demographics for the Transformers Franchise. Previously, the Official Transformers App was for Kids as well.

The player is then greeted to select a User Name. We cannot type a user name of our own but rather select from a list of “first names” and “last names”. The app will automatically add a random number to the end to distinguish the player from thousands of other ‘Brave Bumblebees”.

The gigantic robotic eye which used to be on the middle of the app is now on the top right corner and smaller in size. The little robot interacts with the player. It falls asleep (approx. 1 minute of inactivity) but wakes up when tapped on or the device shaken and sometimes it gives disapproving looks. Creepy.

The app also plays background music. The music itself seems to be inspired from Steve Jablonsky’s Autobots Reunite track from Transformers 4. This can be turned off from the options menu at the bottom of the main menu.

Player can access the main menu from the button on top left corner. The menu gives access to:

  • News
  • Missions
  • Polls
  • Toys
  • Media

Let us take a look at each item one by one.

News:

This displays a summary of new things added. These items include Press Releases, Toy Bios, Transformers Comic Books etc. Opening each item for the first time will give the player a certain number of points.

Missions:

This is a series of Trivia Questions. The True/False questions range from G1 to recent NuRID. Therefore, the player must know facts from various Transformers iterations including (but not limited to) Armada, Beast Wars and Transformers: Prime. There are two types of quizzes; Challenge Mode, which is timed and Trivia Mode which is not timed. The rewards received on the timed mode is significantly higher than the other. All points gathered will count towards a monthly leaderboard. The new trivia quizzes are actually a major improvement over the old ones on Version 2.0.

The trivia starts off easy. Initial question will ask basic stuff like “What color is Bumblebee?” etc. As the game progresses the questions will become noticeably hard. However, fear not; More you play, more familiar you will become.

Friends:

Player’s Friend List. “Add A Friend” feature will allow the player to search and add a friend by using the First Name, Last Name and the Number Code.

If we speak about Performance and Lag, it is clear that the developers have indeed put an effort to make the experience much more smoother than it used to be.

Android users may also notice that the “Exit” button is still missing from the app.

Overall, the users of the app can be happy with the new update. Not only it is much more user friendly, it is also very addicting thanks to the new trivia. It’s a great way to catch up on old knowledge.

You can download the app from the following locations:

What do you think of the new update? Have you found any hidden secrets? Let us know on the thread associated with this post.

As always… Transform & Rollout!
